Auckland Zen Group
The Auckland MRO Zen group holds meditation sessions in Ponsonby each Monday evening, 7.30-9.00pm.
Beginner instruction in Zen meditation (zazen) happens on the first Monday of each month. This instruction provides newcomers with an orientation to the Zen Buddhist tradition, to the practice of zazen, and to the training available within the New Zealand MRO groups. It is necessary to receive beginner instruction before taking part in the regular weekly practice. You can email from the link on the right to confirm you wish to come, or for any other questions. There is a $5 donation to the centre that hosts us. Along with weekly sitting, the Auckland MRO Zen group takes part in monthly on-line discussions with Shugen Roshi, the head of the Mountains and Rivers Order, and with other MRO teachers. These discussions are a valuable opportunity to connect with the teacher, the teachings, and the community of practitioners. The Auckland group also holds occasional zazenkai, or all-day sittings on Waiheke Island. As well, members of the Auckland sangha often attend the summer and winter training retreats in the South Island. Zen groups are open to people of all cultural, ethnic, gender and religious backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing Zen Buddhist meditation. If you would like to learn more about our group or confirm attendance at beginner instruction, please fill out the form below. |
