Friday 18 Sept 5pm to Sunday 20th Sept 2pm
At the very time
when my ears hear
the voice as it is,
everyone I talk with
is my friend.
–Eihei Dogen Zenji, translated by Okumura Roshi
This retreat brings together the beauty and serenity of Lake Okareka near Rotorua, with an array of Zen practices: zazen, walking meditation, Zen liturgy, body practice, work practice, a recorded talk by our Zen teacher, and creative-writing exercises.
The retreat will be held at a venue on the lake's edge, and supported by experienced practitioners within the Mountains and Rivers Order. On Saturday the focus is on meditation; then on Sunday we turn to creative writing and poetry, utilising practices drawn from John Daido Loori's book The Zen of Creativity.
Newcomers are warmly welcome to this retreat, bearing in mind that the Saturday programme involves a significant amount of seated meditation.
Participation is limited to 12 people; please book early if you are interested, because it is likely there will be a waiting list.
