Fire is hot. Wind moves. Water is wet. Earth is hard.
Eyes see. Ears hear. Nose smells. Tongue tastes. — Identity of Relative and Absolute Earth. Water. Fire. Air. Space. Consciousness. The six great elements are the forms of what we are. We awaken through this very body, this very earth, these changing conditions. In this retreat, we enter the elements through seeing, sensing, making, and listening. Through different media we’ll explore their textures, rhythms, energies, and their impermanent nature. What is alive here? What asks to be seen and wants to emerge? This is an invitation to explore and play, discovering what becomes possible when we meet the present moment through the senses. You have the experience necessary. The teacher: Jody Hojin Kimmel, Sensei serves as the Training Director for the Mountains and Rivers Order and Abbot of the Zen Center of New York City (ZCNYC). She began full-time residential training at Zen Mountain Monastery (ZMM) in 1990 and now shares her time between ZMM and ZCNYC in Brooklyn.
